Actor Irrfan Khan’s transformative oeuvre took Indian cinema by storm. From his National School of Drama days to his nearly decade-long stint in television and his work in path-breaking movies such as ‘The Namesake,’ ‘Life of Pi,’ ‘Maqbool,’ and ‘Hindi Medium,’ Irrfan’s special quality of stardom touched all his viewers. Film critic and writer Shubhra Gupta’s ‘Irrfan: A Life in Movies’, is a collection of conversations with his contemporaries and their memories of their time with the legend. In conversation with his beloved wife and theatre actor Sutapa Sikdar and filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, they dive into the art, craft and life of Irrfan with Sathya Saran at the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Series Jaipur Literature Festival 2024.

Shubhra Gupta is one of India's best regarded film critics, and writes for The Indian Express. She is the author of 50 Films That Changed Bollywood, which was published in 2016. Irrfan : A Life In Movies is her latest book.

Sutapa Sikdar is an NSD graduate who has been part of the Indian film and television industry since 1996. She began her career working with Govind Nihalani. She has written various television series including Banegi Apni Baat and films like Kahani, Khamoshi and Shabd. She has also produced many best sellers and also films such as Madari and Qareeb Qareeb Singlle.

Vishal Bhardwaj, a renowned film director, writer, composer, singer, and producer, is recognized for his multifaceted talents. He has directed eleven films, produced many more, and composed music for over forty, including the acclaimed Shakespeare Trilogy (Maqbool, Omkara, Haider). Notable works like Ishqiya, Dedh Ishqiya, and Talvar have earned him 3 international awards and 8 National Awards, underscoring his significant influence on the narrative fabric of Indian cinema.

Sathya Saran spent 30 years in magazine journalism, with 17 years served as Editor – the initial 12 with Femina and the subsequent years with DNA. Saran has transitioned to being a full-time writer. Her repertoire comprises much-loved biographies of cinema and music legends such as Guru Dutt, SD Burman, Jagjit Singh, and Hariprasad Chaurasia. Additionally, she has penned biographies of S. Kumar of S.Kumars and Ritu Nanda.
Additionally, work in progress includes a translation of Yatindra Mishra’s Gulzar Saab, a critical biography of the poet, lyricist, and filmmaker. Saran also has a book of short stories titled The Dark Side. She curates the 'Spaces between Words' festival, a one-of-a-kind writer’s retreat launched in 2017. Saran has also written a series for TV, offering solutions for real-life marital issues, titled Kashmakash. She is currently the Consulting Editor at Penguin India.
