Protests, profits, and the pressure of 10-minute deliveries are at the centre of a heated debate between Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal and AIIMS Delhi doctor Dr. Datta.

Reacting to recent delivery worker protests, Goyal said he supports peaceful demonstrations but condemned violence and attempts to stop others from working. He claimed that several individuals involved were not Zomato delivery partners and alleged that political agents had hijacked the protest.

Defending Zomato’s business model, Goyal said the company’s 10-minute delivery promise is enabled by the density of stores near homes, not by forcing delivery partners to drive fast.

Dr. Datta responded strongly, saying he respects Goyal but objected to protesters being labelled as “miscreants.” He stressed that striking is a fundamental right of workers.

Raising serious safety concerns, the AIIMS doctor said he has treated several delivery workers from Zomato, Blinkit and other quick-commerce platforms at the AIIMS trauma centre following severe road accidents. He questioned incentive-driven delivery systems, warning that faster-delivery rewards encourage overspeeding and rash driving, putting lives at risk.

Dr. Datta challenged companies to clearly spell out concrete measures to protect delivery partners, asking whether worker safety will be prioritised or left to market forces.
