Chalwyn Roadworks Lamp / Lantern Restoration

Описание к видео Chalwyn Roadworks Lamp / Lantern Restoration

I bought this old Chalwyn Roadworks warning lantern on a junk stall at Onslow Steam Rally, Shropshire UK Sept 2012.
Sometimes, items like this lose their character if they are restored. I was undecided whether to leave it with the original aged 'patina' or whether to repaint. In the end, I decided to repaint, as there was just a little too much rust.
Stamped into the top are the initials 'CARDS CC'. This is Cardiganshire County Council (West Wales UK). The county was abolished in 1974 and was succeeded by the district of Ceredigion in the new county of Dyfed, so this gives us the approximate age of the lantern - from around the 1960's / early 1970's.
Luckily it had only surface rust and was easily taken back to bare metal. I used zinc primer to prevent further rust and finished with Plasti-cote gloss red. Hammerite smooth white was used for the lens rims.
