In today’s episode, we're excited to share how to make purple rice Fan Tuan (飯糰), a beloved Taiwanese breakfast treat! This stuffed sticky rice roll is often found at street stalls across Taiwan in the early mornings, sold for just a few dollars. During our trip to Taiwan last winter, we enjoyed a hearty vegan purple rice Fan Tuan that was so comforting, we knew we had to recreate it at home for you all!

Fan Tuan is not only delicious but also the perfect camping meal—it's portable and stores well, making it an ideal option for outdoor adventures!

In this video, we’ve prepped all the tasty toppings and assembled the rolls. We’re using a vegetarian version of rou song (pork floss) that my mom found at an Asian market or you can buy it online. I remember loving it as a kid and putting it over rice or congee, so I’m thrilled that there are now vegan options available!
