Freshman Alyssa really wanted to make a lot of friends, get involved in everything possible, and see what her interests were. I had no idea that marketing was going to be my forte, or how many leadership opportunities were coming my way.

I can't say enough about how instrumental Voice Z has been for my college experience, both personally and professionally. I've picked up all these amazing digital marketing skills through hands on work with real clients from the New Hampshire SBDC: SEO, website design, social media management, auditing, photography and videography.

It's been really rewarding to make these great differences in these local businesses. And it's been such a huge resume builder for getting internships and jobs. When I joined it was still a pretty new org, which really gave me the opportunity to help shape its direction.

Paul can sometimes be a bit of a bubble, and sometimes that's not such a great thing. (Tennis helped me reach outside of it!) But Paul is definitely a community of achievers and innovators, with very varying interests and goals, who are all incredibly supportive and welcoming. Since freshman year I've watched the college become increasingly diverse and accepting. I still remember the year every student org had female leadership. I was like, "Yes!!"

One of the biggest growth experiences for me outside Voice Z was studying abroad in Paris my junior year. I went from living my whole life in New Hampshire to OH MY GD one of the biggest cities in the world.

I'd taken French in high school and I thought I was proficient in it... but I was not. Learning how to navigate a city lifestyle, a new language, the metro, a new sense of independence – it was huge for me.

So: don't be afraid to try new things. Don't be afraid to change–whether that's your major, your student orgs, or even your look! UNH is an opportunity to really explore what parts of yourself you want to grow.
