Starting today, three new criminal laws will reform India's justice system, replacing colonial-era laws. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam introduce modern provisions like Zero FIR, online police complaint registration, electronic summonses, and mandatory videography of crime scenes. Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasizes that these laws prioritize justice and reflect Indian values. Key changes include prioritizing crimes against women and children, a new app for recording evidence, and abolishing sedition as a crime.
