SpeedZone Wasteland : SpeedZone : Dallas, TX

Exploring the final hours of SpeedZone in Dallas, TX.

As the sun reflected from the giant mirrored wheels, I could feel the heat radiating from the wall, as what summer remained, continued to decay the palm trees lining the walkaways, and wide open, garage-like entrance into Johnny Rockets, where rooms of wires, distressed drywall, and the sound of shoes crunching broken glass, mixed with sticky blue snow cone syrup residue, accentuated the utter calamity, and ruination, of SpeedZone.

Remnants of go-cart tracks laid dormant, as street art adorned the fallout, queued demolition, while dead security cameras provided inoperable eyes over a kitchen turned completely upside down, an empty, dark arcade, where neon lights once lit Electric Alley, as well as the bustling freeways, parked tractors, and the permanently closed go-cart service garage.

Lots of people have pretty positive memories of this place. I highly recommend searching YouTube for videos, and Google Reviews for photos — it’s surreal. This really was the quintessential Texas sized family entertainment venue, with sprawling go-cart tracks, a mini golf course, arcade, and a 50's diner burger joint, and not to mention, the go-carts were like mini drag racing cars — all of which, was nearly unrecognizable, and now, forever, gone, as SpeedZone is completely demolished.
