Amlapitta, known as hyperacidity in modern terms, is a common gastrointestinal issue in Ayurveda. The term "Amlapitta" combines 'Amla' (sour) and 'Pitta' (a dosha associated with heat and metabolism). This condition results from the aggravation of Pitta dosha, leading to excessive stomach acid.

Common causes include consumption of spicy, oily, and acidic foods, irregular eating habits, excessive caffeine or alcohol, and stress. Symptoms include heartburn, sour belching, indigestion, nausea, and a burning sensation in the stomach and chest.

Ayurvedic treatment focuses on dietary changes, lifestyle adjustments, and herbal remedies. A Pitta-pacifying diet, featuring cooling, non-spicy foods and regular meals, is recommended. Herbs like amla (Indian gooseberry), licorice, and coriander help due to their soothing properties. Regular exercise, stress management through yoga and meditation, and adequate hydration are also essential.
