Women Breakthrough Award Ceremony | International Fall Gathering 2023

An initiative of Falling Walls Female Science Talents and the Elsevier Foundation in 2023, the Women Breakthrough Award distinguishes three women scientists each year who conduct visionary research while also engaging with issues of gender equity and equality in science.

The winners of the Women Breakthrough Award 2023 are:
• Innovation Category: "The Power of Black Soldier Fly for Bioconversion and Feed Production", Atinuke Chineme, University of Calgary & Marwa Shumo, Center for Development Research (ZEF) and University of Bonn.
• Gender Mainstreaming Category: "AI to Identify Gender Bias in School Textbooks", Sudeshna Das, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
• Empowerment Category: "A Culturally Sensitive Model for Intimate Care Facilitation in Nursing Care", Simangele Shakwane, University of South Africa.

The ceremony was hosted in a festive environment at PalaisPopulaire, Unter den Linden, with over 80 guests. We thank our distinguished Jury: Ylann Schemm & Domizana Francsecon (the Elsevier Foundation), Rana Dajani (Hashemite University), Imke Rajamani (Hamburg Sustainability Conference), and Injonge Karangwa (Institute for Creative Repair).
