TIME-RESTRICTED FEEDING (AKA-FASTING)

-protects from fatty liver regardless of sex or age
-preserves whole-body glucose regulation in males and females irrespective of age
-extends muscle performance, motor coordination, and survival to sepsis in old mice
-protects against body weight gain in male mice but not in female mice

What does this mean?

We need to ask what is different in a woman’s body that would make her gain weight while fasting?
Sensitive to cortisol spikes

When does a cortisol spike hurt a woman the most?
The week before her period

Why would a cortisol spike cause a woman to gain weight?
-High cortisol levels make a woman more insulin resistant

What can a woman do? BOTTOMLINE: Women need more fasting variation!
A. Have a cycle? Don’t fast a week before the period starts
B. Have an irregular cycle like perimenopause? Clue app & notice symptoms of low P
C. Don’t have a cycle? One to two times a week don’t fast long (13hrs or less)
