phosphor but it was made in garageband by an idiot

Описание к видео phosphor but it was made in garageband by an idiot

i know on little cat feet is technically more popular, but phosphor definitely gives it a run for its money. i would even say that it is the best piece of oneshot music if eleventh hour didn't exist lol.

as always, done by ear and following along with midi/piano tutorials. the bell/lead part in particular was pretty hard to listen for, which is unusual since i typically do well with leads by ear.

also why does the preview video seem so much more louder than how it is when i fully post it? i always think that the video is going to be really loud and then i post it and its mostly fine. youtube straight up gaslighting me into thinking that i can't balance audio... which i mean i can't but shhh

credits:
original song (well not really, this is just the music that's on youtube):    • OneShot OST - Phosphor
oneshot ost on bandcamp (just putting this here for proper reference, since before the videos i linked for the og song were posted by the original creators themselves, but that isn't the case here so): https://nightmargin.bandcamp.com/albu...
midi cover (filling in the role of piano tutorial this time. also the cover is unironically really well made, please show the creator some love!!):    • Phosphor (OneShot OST) - Synthesia

gameplay in the video was recorded and edited by me (no in-video art this time, was really tired and also can't draw well lol)

ok time to talk about the cover:

so when i was initially making this, i was basing my reference on how the song plays in-game - really slow and all. but this was really difficult to do, since i wanted the same atmospheric, desolate vibe the original had, and no matter what i did it was really difficult to achieve that. so, what i did was i took the file for phosphor as it is in oneshot's files (which plays 2x the speed it does in-game) and used that for my reference. then, once i was done with my cover, i slowed it down by 50%. the result is this. not sure if my strategy worked lol.

it was actually pretty difficult to achieve the kind of sound i wanted with slowing down the cover, since the lead part would become really harsh and metallic no matter what i did. at one point, i even removed all the bell instruments from the lead and left it with the soft parts only, and even then it was too metallic... so i just gave up. maybe i did something wrong but idk, it might sound good to someone.

also i love how simple yet impactful the drums are in the original song. that’s a big reason why i try to do covers in the first place: so i can really hear all of a song i really enjoy instead of just the loud parts. like i never really noticed the drums bc the lead was so good, but now that i did this cover i had to pay more attention to it.

future covers update: i might be putting my cover of the prophecy on here soon bc it’s basically just phosphor without the lead, but other than that, idrk what i should do for covers rn. i still feel like i wanna do some battle themes, so you guys could be seeing something like stronger monsters or you were wrong go back, but honestly it’s not really set in stone. feel free to suggest something!!

anyways i think that’s all i have to say for now. thank you all for sticking around and for being such nice people in general, and i hope you guys have a great rest of your day :)
