Why do your roofing shingles have granules on them? Your roof shingles have granules on them not just to give it a good color and curb appeal, but to protect the asphalt! When your shingle roof starts losing its granules the asphalt will start to degrade by the sun. The longer it goes the worse it gets and the fiberglass mat is very poorest allowing water to seep through then leak in. If you see a lot of granules gathering in your gutters it's a good indication that your shingles are starting to wear out.
