Elvis’ first two live renditions of this song were both on the same tour and both for the benefit of MGM’s cameras, who were present filming for what would become “Elvis – On Tour”. These two renditions in Greensboro and San Antone on 14 and 18 April 1972, saw Elvis announce the song as new and in both cases had Elvis read from a lyric sheet.
The song was then omitted from the set list until the final tour of the year where it returned. Now, with both Elvis and the band familiar with the sing and in that regard completely in unison, some wonderful powerhouse renditions are the result.
This rendition, from The Long Beach Arena on 15 November 1972 is perhaps the finest of those, and one of the finest Elvis live renditions in general.
