Discussing the 'Chat from the Lair with Larry DiIanni' with someone may well wind up in an argument.

Is Larry's unguarded and simultaneously defensive take on what happened to him as Mayor of Hamilton accurate? Or is he clouded by his own anger at his perceived persecution?

To have lived in Hamilton during those years is to have a strong opinion on Mayor DiIanni.

Was he a smart, strong leader bringing a struggling city to its Renaissance? Or was he caught not disclosing contributions and annoyed at the citizen bent on holding him accountable?

Opinions about Larry and the question of integrity defined the election. He argues a series of stories in the Hamilton Spectator about corruption on council impacted the election (unfairly?).

Either way the victory by Fred Eisenberger was so slim that headlines shouted that Larry lost -- not that Fred won. I was calling the election that night live from City Hall on Cable 14 and will never forget the shock and drama surrounding the final result.

So are Larry's revelations, opinions and characterizations (so-called scandals as bullshit, and likening his actions to same significance as a speeding ticket) in the 'Chat from the Lair' refreshingly candid and informative ... or jaded and offensive?
