I have re-edited the video recordings of our visit to Iceland a couple of years ago. Join us on our daily tours.
Fjallsárlón is a glacial lake on the south side of Iceland's Vatnajökull glacier. Fjallsjökull, part of the larger glacier, reaches down to the lake water and some icebergs drift past on the surface.
The glacier that flows into the lagoon is part of the Vatnajökull National Park and the more famous glacial lake Jökulsárlón is not far from it. From the glacial lake Breiðárlón a small river flows into the Fjallsárlón.
Rising at the top is the famous volcano Öræfajökull.
Jökulsárlón ("glacial river lagoon") is a large glacial lake in the southern part of Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland. Located at the head of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, it developed into a lake after the glacier began to recede from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The lake has since grown in varying degrees due to the melting of the glaciers. It is now about 8 km from the edge of the ocean and has an area of about 18 km² (6.9 square miles). In 2009, it was reported to be Iceland's deepest lake, at over 284 m (932 ft), as the glaciers retreated. The size of the lake has quadrupled since the 1970s.
