The Sunda flying lemur, also known as the colugo, is one of Southeast Asia’s most extraordinary mammals. Despite its name, it isn’t a lemur and it can’t truly fly—but it is one of nature’s most skilled gliders. With its unique skin membrane, the colugo can silently glide over 100 meters between rainforest trees. By day, it hides perfectly camouflaged against bark, and by night, it feeds on leaves, flowers, and fruit. Mothers even carry their young while gliding through the canopy. Sadly, deforestation is putting this mysterious “flying” creature at risk.
