Cars were washed into the sea on the tourist island of Crete and two people were killed after torrential rain caused major flooding during one of the worst storms for 100 years.

Rain started to fall on Saturday morning in the southern Greek island, hitting the popular tourist city of Heraklion particularly hard.

A video shows beaches strewn with tree bark and cars overturned as brown, muddy water violently laps the shore.

Greek firefighters said the body of a 49-year-old woman was found in the sea on Sunday, raising the death toll to two from the floods.
