Описание к видео Dhara | Wabi-Sabi Home with Subtle Indian Nuances | Minimal, Textural & Timeless Interiors.

Blending two design styles is often a homeowner’s dream and a designer’s creative challenge. For a Hyderabad-based couple working in the IT sector, the vision was clear—a home that harmoniously fused the principles of Wabi-Sabi with subtle Indian nuances. To bring this vision to life, they partnered with Asha Mogaral of Syzygy Designz. Guided by the clients’ love for simplicity, tradition, and natural materials, the design evolved around these core values. The 1700-square-foot home was aptly named Dhara—a reflection of their rooted sensibilities and the quiet beauty of Wabi-Sabi, seamlessly woven into a space that feels both grounded and serene.
The concept of cozy Wabi-Sabi with a traditional Indian twist comes to life right from the living room. The TV unit, featuring a blend of stone veneer and gently curved laminate panels with wainscoting beadings, sets the warm, textural tone of the space. A rustic console adorned with earthy artwork anchors the area, while the back wall is graced by a rosewood carving of Seetha Rama Kalyanam, sourced from Mysore—adding a deeply personal and cultural touch. The seating arrangement includes a chaise bench that extends seamlessly to the wall, doubling as a side table, paired with a three-seater sofa featuring rounded armrests, all upholstered in soft boucle fabric. Opposite the chaise sits a swivel armchair in vibrant custom fabric, complemented by a circular center table with a travertine-look tile top and fluted base. A partition of solid wood pillars and woven rattan accents subtly separates the living room from the master bedroom, providing privacy while maintaining visual continuity.
In the dining area, multifunctional furniture enhances the flexibility of the space. The crockery unit, for instance, is cleverly designed to house an expandable dining table—serving as a compact two-seater for daily use and extending to accommodate six when needed. This unit mirrors the TV wall with matching laminate paneling and open black rod shelves, creating visual continuity. Directly opposite the dining area is the pooja room. Its doors combine laminate and rattan finishes, crowned with a rosewood gopuram, while a kolam-inspired mural on the adjacent wall infuses the space with spiritual and cultural significance.
The kitchen is designed with simplicity and function in mind, optimizing storage without compromising on style. A terrazzo-patterned backsplash adds a playful yet refined touch, while a subtle arch detail introduces visual interest, lending character to the space without overwhelming it.
In the master bedroom, the eye is immediately drawn to the headboard—a custom-designed piece in suede finish with subtle, tactile patterns. Behind it, a stone veneer-clad wall adds an earthy, rustic charm that anchors the space. Functionality meets style with wardrobes and a study unit finished in sleek laminate, maintaining a clean, cohesive aesthetic throughout the room.
The guest bedroom carries forward the home’s design language with thoughtful details. The bed stands out with a distinctive two-step headboard, connected by a fabric belt, while the adjacent wall is partially wrapped in wallpaper, divided by a wooden band that adds layered visual interest. Interestingly, the wardrobe features engraved line patterns and discreet vents for separating soiled clothes—combining utility with subtle aesthetics. A minimal study unit is brightened by a soft green arch, introducing a gentle pop of colour. Finally, the study room is designed for versatility and comfort. A sofa-cum-bed sits against a curved wallpaper backdrop, with a laminated panel subtly dividing the wall to add depth. A sliding wardrobe in beige and wood-finish laminate offers ample storage, while a curved lacquered glass writing board paired with floating shelves creates a sleek and functional workspace.
Dhara is a true reflection of its inhabitants’ personalities—where traditional Indian art forms like Kolam seamlessly blend with the quiet elegance of Wabi-Sabi. Warmth, texture, and tone come together to create a space that now echoes with the couple’s laughter and offers a sense of calm retreat. Every corner tells a story—rooted in tradition, yet open to timeless simplicity.
