My child is diagnosed with Autism - How to move on after autism diagnosis

It’s really scary when you find out that your child has Autism. What can I do? Where do I go? So I thought it would be helpful if talked about a few things that you can do after a diagnosis.

An autism diagnosis can be difficult to come to terms with. You may be coping with a condition you know very little about, and trying to find new ways for everyone to live together and feel supported. Many parents aren't given any guidance on what to do next. Moving on from a diagnosis can seem daunting, but we’re here to help. When a child receives a diagnosis of autism, Asperger syndrome, or other pervasive developmental disorders parents and family members may experience a range of feelings. These feelings can include grief, denial, anger, fear, and confusion. If you are a parent, you may feel or have felt these emotions.

This is important for autistic children, who can benefit from appropriate, sometimes intensive, support from an early age. It’s also important for families, who may benefit from services such as short breaks. A diagnosis can help your child to get autism-specific support, but this doesn’t happen automatically.
