Lagaan is a 2001 Indian sports drama film directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. The film is set in the late 19th century during the British Raj in India and revolves around a small village called Champaner, which is struggling to pay high taxes imposed by the British.

The protagonist, Bhuvan (played by Aamir Khan), decides to challenge the British to a game of cricket, with the condition that if his team wins, the taxes will be waived off for three years. Despite the villagers having no knowledge of cricket, they unite to form a team and train hard to compete against the skilled British team.
