This video is part of hold-still-life, a 2024 exhibition of paintings and videos by Eric LoPresti at the University of Rochester’s Hartnett gallery.

Each video is a loop which the artist took during covid, of natural scenes in places like Joshua Tree National Park and a distant fire in the artist’s home town on the Columbia river. Taken without a tripod, it is nearly-but-not-quite-still.

Together with the paintings in the exhibition, these videos continue LoPresti’s exploration of nature, disaster, perception and contemporary history on the North American continent.
