莆田市位於福建省沿海中部,西北依戴雲山,東南望臺灣海峽,地處閩東南山地丘陵與沿海平原交匯處,三面環山一面臨海,境內木蘭溪自西向東橫貫,注入興化灣,水運與灌溉資源豐富。
Putian is located on the mid-coast of Fujian Province, bounded by Daiyun Mountain to the northwest and overlooking the Taiwan Strait to the southeast. The Meilun River runs west to east through the city into Xinghua Bay, providing rich transport and irrigation resources. With over 250 scenic and cultural heritage sites, it is known as the “Seaside Zhoulu” and a “Land of Literature.”

唐武德五年(公元622年),莆田縣設置於南安縣西境,隸屬豐州,標誌着地方行政建制的開始。
宋元時期先後屬興化軍、興化路,明清兩代為興化府治所;1949年後數度調整,1983年撤區建市,2002年撤縣設區,現轄城廂、涵江、荔城、秀嶼四區。
湄洲島為林默(後稱「媽祖」)的誕生地,媽祖祖廟香火鼎盛,年吸海內外信眾百萬以上,是海洋信仰與民俗文化的核心。
2023年9月,莆田市被正式列入國家歷史文化名城名錄,進一步肯定其深厚的歷史文化底蘊。
In 622 AD (Tang Wude Year 5), Putian County was established from southern An County under Fengzhou, marking the start of its local administration.
During the Song and Yuan dynasties, it belonged to Xinghua Prefecture; in the Ming and Qing it served as the seat of Xinghua Prefecture. After several reorganizations post‑1949, it became a city in 1983 and formed its current four districts in 2002.
Meizhou Island, birthplace of Lin Mo (later worshipped as “Mazu”), hosts the grand ancestral temple that draws over a million pilgrims annually, anchoring the region’s sea‑based folk religion.
In September 2023, Putian was designated a national historical and cultural city, affirming its rich heritage.

湄洲島/Meizhou Island

木蘭陂/Mulan Dam
木蘭陂位於城廂區木蘭山下,是北宋建設的古代大型堰渠工程,全長219.13米,含32孔閘門和33座堰墩,1988年列為全國重點文物保護單位,2014年入選世界灌溉工程遺產。
