Discovering Japan's delightful Miyajima Island

Описание к видео Discovering Japan's delightful Miyajima Island

Itsukushima Island, better known by its nickname Miyajima (meaning Shrine Island), is a great place to unwind for a few days or as a day trip from Hiroshima and elsewhere on the mainland.

It’s a pleasant 10-minute ferry ride from the town of Miyajimaguchi (with trains that connect seamlessly to Hiroshima).

The vibe here is relaxed, despite the crush of tourists who come across. There are few cars on the island, and no traffic lights. You walk here among the free-roaming Sika deer or else hop aboard a free shuttle to get up to the cable car line that takes you to near the top of Mount Misen, where more trails await.

Aside from the spectacular scenery the island offers, Miyajima is famous for the centuries-old Itsukushima Shrine, a World Heritage site, and several other Shinto and Buddhist shrines and temples, including Toyokuni Shrine, with its five-story pagoda.

For travelers, it’s also just a cool place to take a breather.
