Spokane: Then and Now video podcast #2 The Harlem Club

Описание к видео Spokane: Then and Now video podcast #2 The Harlem Club

Spokane once had a jazz club known for hot jazz, good food and raucous revelry. E.J. "Jim" Brown built the Pirates' Den in 1929 and built a national reputation as the place where black entertainers could go and perform. On most nights, the clientele was all white. One or two nights a week, African-Americans could come in for music and parties. The Pirates Den became the Harlem Club around 1936. Unfortunately, the club burned down in 1951 and few living people remember it. But it was a little bit of Harlem Renaissance in Spokane, Washington. Produced by Jesse Tinsley
