Recently, I was invited to hold a sound bath on Sherkin Island as part of a retreat weekend for a group of Afghan women who have settled in Ireland after fleeing the taliban. It was an amazing weekend of connection, poetry, music and Afghan feasts! A weekend full of firsts for many, including boat rides and island adventures.

It was great to finally meet the women and to think this time last year we were still unsure if they would even be able to get here.

In a yoga room perched on a cliff overlooking the sea, we gathered for a sharing circle. I was struck by the intentions expressed by the women. The common theme that emerged was a longing for peace. Despite the hardships they had endured, there was a profound absence of bitterness. One woman poignantly spoke about the suffering of not just people, but also animals during times of conflict.
