Amitabha Buddha & His Pure Land: Why They Really Exist (A Must Watch!)

In Mahayana Buddhist cosmology, the Buddha described many different worlds in the Universe. Not only are there many different worlds, but also many different universes (what we might call the "multiverse").

In recent years scientists have also found proof of the existence of a multiverse.

If Buddha-nature is within all beings, surely there are also many different Buddhas and enlightened beings in different worlds.

In the Mahayana sutras, we often see the Buddha mention many other Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who are in different worlds teaching the Dharma.

Each Buddha also has His own Pure Land - think of the Pure Land as a manifestation/creation through a Buddha's perfect consciousness (which encompass their infinite, perfect merits and great vows).

In the Pure Land sutras, Shakyamuni Buddha told us that to the west of this world, ten trillion buddha-lands away (very very far away), there's a land called Ultimate Bliss (Sukhāvatī) where there is a Buddha called Amitabha who is right now teaching Dharma.

In the Infinite Life Sutra, Shakyamuni Buddha also told us about the past life of Amitabha before he realized Buddhahood. Eons upon eons of years ago (an indefinitely long period of time), Amitabha was a Bodhisattva called Dharmakara who was once a king and gave up his kingdom to pursue ultimate enlightenment.

He studied under the guidance of World Sovereign King Buddha (Lokeśvararāja) and vowed to create the best Pure Land for all beings to reside in. After meditating for five eons he succeeded and created the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.

Why is the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss so special? First, it's a land with all bliss and no suffering. Beings who gain rebirth there will obtain infinite life and realise Buddhahood quickly. Then one can freely travel to all different worlds to teach the Dharma (just like a Buddha).

It's also the easiest method for any ordinary being to gain rebirth into the Pure Land. All we need to do is chant the name of Amitabha Buddha repeatedly, and at the time of death Amitabha Buddha will come to receive us.

It's not just some made-up story or fantasy. The Buddha has no reason to lie to us. Many beings have gained rebirth into the Pure Land from ancient times until now through this method.

So if one wants to be liberated from all sufferings in life in one lifetime, then this is the way to go.

This is also one of the easiest forms of meditation which can help you quickly return into the present in your daily life.
