An interesting Wednesday afternoon at Hest Bank includes Classes 56 - 66 - 68 - 70 - 88 - 195 - 390 - 397 and features an unusual 9 Freight trains in a 2 hour period between 14.30 and 16.30.
Hest Bank is located between Lancaster and Carnforth on the West Coast Mainline where the railway runs along the shores of Morecambe Bay for about a mile.
This is the only location on the WCML where the sea is visible from the line, from this point going northwards the line climbs up into the Lakeland Hills and onto Carlisle.
