Porsche 996 Restoration - Part 7 - Tidying up the Getrag 6-Speed Gearbox

Work continues on the 911, and this time I am focusing on the Getrag six speed manual gearbox. While the Land Rover box required much more internal works, the Getrag is running fine, so it is basically cosmetic work which I do here.

As with all of the other cast housings on the car, the aluminium has suffered from the weather over the years. Its the same with all the steel accessories bolted to it, but those get a clean up and it looks quite presentable at the end.

I will be replacing the clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder later in the project, as well as the selector cables and shifter gate. I have decided to move away from the 996 solution and fit the 997 shifter set-up which is an improvement over its predecessor and offers a more decisive shift. I cant wait!
