The police have issued an update after daylight robbery in West Byfleet.

Surrey Police have confirmed that they are currently investigating after a suspected stolen vehicle was used to ram raid a jewellers.

The car reversed into Brooklands Jewellers in Old Woking Road, West Byfleet, just after 1pm. A representative from the independent jewellers told a media outlet there had been a ram raid while the shop was open.

Police confirmed that after the car was used to ram the premises, the suspects who were wearing face coverings, entered the jewellers and stole a number of high value items

The suspects then left the scene and a short time later on Parkside in New Haw, the vehicle was found by officers and one suspect was located with injuries, including one to his arm.

He was arrested on suspicion of burglary and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Surrey Police has since referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) after a suspect was injured during a subsequent chase.

A spokesperson for Surrey Police said: "We are currently investigating after a suspected stolen vehicle was used to ram raid a jewellers on Old Woking Road at around 1.15pm this afternoon. After the car was used to ram the premises, the suspects who were wearing face coverings, entered the jewellers and stole a number of high value items."

The spokesperson added: "The suspects left the scene and at Parkside in New Haw, the vehicle was found by officers and one suspect was located with injuries, including one to his arm. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary and was taken to hospital for treatment. Following an area search involving the police helicopter and the dog unit, the two other suspects were also located and arrested on suspicion of burglary."

Eye witnesses report seeing an emergency service helicopter land at Heathervale Recreation Ground, a mile away from the jewellers. A red Mini Cooper, matching the description of the vehicle given by witnesses, was also spotted stranded in bushes near the park.

A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service told SurreyLive: "I can confirm that SECAmb was called to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car on Parkside, New Haw, at approximately 1.20pm today (29 January). Ambulance crews attended and were joined at the scene by Air Ambulance Charity Kent, Surrey, Sussex. The pedestrian was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to hospital by road."
