We started at the bottom of Mt Stronach at about 11.30am with five cars. We planned to drive up to the first large rock lookout before walking the track to the summit to see if it was drivable. It took about 1.5hrs to drive to the lookout with two main obstacles along the way, the first is a rutted section with multiple lines, and then a loose dusty climb with a few diff catching rocks at the top. We ate lunch at the lookout and walked the bottom part of the next section of track that heads up to the summit.

The group decided we'd take it on, some of us reluctantly, and started the track at about 2.15pm. This section of track is very short, probably less than 1km but is very difficult with two main sections. The lower rock garden, and the upper rock garden. Both sections are full of large boulders and wheel placement and line choice are critical. It took us 1 hour 45 minutes to reach the summit, which is probably less than a kilometer in distance. After visiting the giant cairn we descended back to the first lookout and camped there overnight. The sunset was incredible. Highly recommend this track if you are experienced, and have a capable vehicle. Alternatively there is an easy track up to the lookout which you can find on maps.
