This film did surprise me.

If you don't like the film, that's cool. I've heard that it is derivative, bland, plodding, cliche...but fuck it. No matter what anyone cay say, it won't change my mind in saying that I really did enjoy this flick.

Definitely one of my favorites of the year. I thought it had a great atmosphere in the vein of Seven, the cast was stellar (Eric Bana and priest Édgar Ramírez especially, but I didn't seen any bad performances in this flick), I thought Eric Bana was a very likable lead character (unlike the overrated Sinister which gave you an unsympathetic father character that endangered his family aka Ethan Hawke's character), I love seeing once again a 'Cop in Supernatural Circumstances' that I haven't seen in the longest time (other films like this that I love are The First Power and End of Days), great score by Christopher Young, some cool usage of songs (many from The Doors, and a beautiful instrumental version of 'When It's Cold I'd Like To Do' by Moby), some fun Jump Scares, a story that pulled me in and kept me intrigued, some nice/subtle stuff, some good practical FX, I enjoyed the exorcism sequence at the end, I enjoyed some of the moments of levity (like between New York Cops Eric Bana & Joel McHale), and no Bullshit endings.
