Описание к видео A family moving to France - Chapter 1 A family in England

Nikki McArthur, author of What have we got Toulouse? A family moving to France, reads Chapter 1 of her book.

This is the true story of an ordinary family who swapped their run-of-the-mill life in Southeast England for a far from ordinary life-in-a-mill in Southwest France. Nikki McArthur aka "A Mother in France" opens up a window to her world and invites you to journey with her through the positive and negative experiences of the process of moving, settling, making a living and raising a family in a new country. Woven within the pages of the family's experiences are a treasury of facts and information making it not only a fascinating read, but a useful guide to living in France.

A first class read for UK expats.
I recommend this book to any expat whether just arrived in France or who has been here for years. I wish it had been available 7 years ago when I was just about to leave England for Blagnac (a suburb of Toulouse) to live and work. I can relate to many of the experiences of the author.

Couldn't put it down!
A great book for those interested in moving to France. A story well told and lots of useful information included. Get to grips with the French systems in advance of your move, even if it's only a pipe dream. Especially useful to those planning a large family!

An honest account of living and making it work in France.
A true, informative and funny description of moving to and living in France. A very enjoyable read.

Entertaining and insightful
Loved this book. Although not even considering moving to France I found it entertaining and insightful for those who are considering such a move. A thoroughly good read about the ups and downs of family life in a new country. I shall definitely read the sequels and will recommend it to friends.

Fabulous and engaging read
I loved this book. I felt like it was a story written by a friend and I feel as though I know the whole family now.

A wonderful, wonderful book-I loved it!
I was delighted to beta read this lovely memoir about moving to a new life in France. First impressions were great, and what a gorgeous cover too. This is a bit different to some of these types of memoirs I have read before in that Nikki and her hubby Gary are not retired: A young family’s story of moving abroad in this case. It’s great news that there will be more-a series to look forward to, and I will certainly be reading all of them.

An entertaining, well-written, unputdownable book
This is an enjoyable, real-life story of a family and their move to live in rural France. Nikki is a natural story-teller, you really feel as if you are travelling along with her, and her descriptions of the landscape, the enormous rural (and run-down) house that they bought, and the many escapades and challenges that they faced as a family, are entertaining and beautifully written. Having moved to live in Portugal, I can relate to many of the incidents and the way of life described in the book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this charming book, and I am looking forward to the sequel. Highly recommended, whether you intend to move abroad to live or not!

An entertaining and factual read
I very much enjoyed reading this book. On many occasions, I found myself saying, "Yes, exactly. That was my experience too". The book records a couple, with young children, setting up a business. However, I think that anyone of any age, would find it useful as well as being entertaining, if they were thinking about moving to France. If not, then it may explain many things about French life to visitors. The book is well written and I never felt 'bogged down' by long descriptions or digressions. I am looking forward to reading the next installment of this story.

Great balance of practical and emotional aspects of moving to France
I highly enjoyed this book and devoured all of the practical information it provided while painting a picture of one family’s adventure of moving to France. I would highly recommend it as a must read for anyone with a family thinking of moving to France. It’s a huge dream of mine to one day move to France and it was refreshing to read about a family that I could relate to and how they pursued that dream. Looking forward to reading more about the McArthur family’s years in France!

Great read, transported me to rural France.
Just finished this book and absolutely loved it, as it transported me straight back to France. A great read for anyone contemplating a permanent move or buying a holiday home. We have a home in the Pyrenees and the book is certainly a true representation of life in rural France, frustrating, funny, but ultimately greatly rewarding. Looking forward to the sequel .
