Pikes Peak reaches 14,115’ in elevation and is the second-highest paved road in the United States that you can drive to the top of! It’s worth the adventure if you’ve never been. Here are a few more tips that I didn’t mention in the video:

🐐 Watch for wildlife! You might see deer, elk, yellow-bellied marmots (my favorites!), bighorn sheep, pika, and more along the Pikes Peak Highway.

⛈️ It can snow or rain any month of the year on Pikes Peak. You have better chances of avoiding severe weather on the mountain if you arrive early.

🏁 You won’t be setting any hill climb records…so slow down, pull over to enjoy the views or to let others pass you.

🥤Drink plenty of water, especially if you’re not used to the elevation or are sensitive to it. Staying hydrated can help you avoid getting altitude sickness.

⏰ Check the hours of operation when planning your trip. The road is not open 24/7. (And as mentioned, you’ll need a reservation to visit the Summit!)
