Join me as we image the Moon in high resolution and transform the bleak grey landscape into a colorful display.
By taking high resolution data up close with a planetary camera of the lunar surface of craters, mountains, and maria, the result is a sharp monochromatic image we can use as a detail (luminance) layer. By taking DSLR data and stretching the colors like the "Mineral Moon" video, we can overlay that color data onto our detail layer for a LRGB close up of the Moon's features.

Looking at the Moon visually, we see it glowing intensely against the dark background of space. In reality, the Moon is quite dark and almost black in some areas. The intense light from the Sun brightens the surface so much it appears almost white from Earth. In pictures, with the right processing, we can actually bring out the colors of the minerals that compose the Lunar Landscape.
These various minerals include: Iron oxide, titanium dioxide, magnesium oxide, aluminum oxide, silicon dioxide, calcium oxide, and more.
