Annapurnas? Everest? Langtang Valley? Or maybe a lesser known region? Where to trek in Nepal?
In this video we introduce you to 50 different treks in 15 very different areas in the walking wonderland that is Nepal. In doing so, we want to give you an idea about what area might offer what you are looking for.
Deutsche Version: • Wo trekken in Nepal? - 50 Treks in 15...
Long story short: There is nothing like "the best place to trek in Nepal". The country is extremely diverse. Landscapes, cultures, views, trails, accomodation options, rules regarding guides... all these things vary greatly from region to region. And those who visit Nepal for trekking also might be looking for different experiences, challenges and treats. So the actual question is: what is the best place to trek in Nepal - for you?!?
After showing you a rough overview of the country and it's most important airstrips, we start our journey in the far west region of Nepal. Here you can find the mountain ranges of Api and Saipal, the countries largest lake and wild, remote camping treks.
To the north east of here, tucked away behind a barrier formed by Kanjirowa Himal and Dhaulagiri Himal is the Dolpo region. A mystic former kingdom high on the Tibetan plateau, that sees very few tourists. It can only be explored with help of a guide and a camping crew.
Mount Dhaulagiri itself - the 7th highest mountain on earth - offers a camping trek as well, starting in the lush jungles around the town of Beni and finishing in Jomsom, within the desert of Mustang.
The Annapurna Himal of course features two of the most well known treks: The Annapurna Circuit and the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. But that's not all. The whole region is one of the epicenters of tourism in the Himalaya. There are a lot of treks to choose from and to combine with each other. All offering well maintained trails and great accomodation options. However things can get crowded in High season...
A little further east the Manaslu Circuit might give you an idea about how the Annapurna Circuit must have looked like several years ago, before the hiking world arrived there. It's comparable in challenges and landscapes, but much more unspoilt.
Ganesh Himal and it's two major treks north and south of it are quite off the beaten path. Not many Nepal visitors know about the Tsum Valley or the Ruby Valley.
Much more talked about is the Langtang Himal, east of Ganesh. It offers a range of convenient, easy, short treks, that can all be combined with each other, creating an amazing trekking region just north of Kathmandu.
Before we reach the Khumbu, we briefly introduce you to the relatively little known valley of Rolwaling, it's glacial lake and the high pass connecting it to the Everest area, where we find one of the most hiked treks in the country: The EBC or Everest Base Camp Trek. That is far from the only trek in the Khumbu, though.
South of the high Khumbu you can find the two stand alone treks Pikey Peaks Trek and Numbur Cheese Circuit, as well as the two walk ins to the high Khumbu, one from Lukla and one from Tumlingtar. In the high Khumbu itself, besides the EBC you also got the amazing Gokyo Trek and the long, difficult but very rewarding Three High Passes Trek.
A lot less visited is the Makalu Barun National Park, just east of the Khumbu. There is a young lodge trek to the Makalu Base Camp, as well as difficult camping treks linking the MBC to the Khumbu and the Hinku and Honku valleys.
The wide arun Valley separates the greater Khumbu Region from the subrange including the worlds third highest mountain: Kangchenjunga. There are two separate tea house treks (one to the north base camp and one to the south base camp) that can be combined to a multiple week long adventure in Nepals remote north east.
