Taipei's subway system, called the MRT, is easy to use, clean and efficient.
As a tourist, you don't need to buy a pass or card. Single journey tokens will work fine.
Each ride on Taipei's MRT will cost around 80 cents.

The touch-screen MRT kiosks are easy to figure out, and you can switch the screen over to "English."

After figuring out the cost of you ride, by using a subway system map, just choose your price and pay with cash or card.

You'll use the blue token that comes out to get through the entry gate and down to the subway train platforms.

The MRT platforms have taped areas, directing you where to stand as you wait for the arriving train.
Onboard, the stops are listed in English, so it's easy to figure out when to get off.

You'll need to drop the blue token into the gate for it to open when you leave.
