The short-lived MGC suffered a poor reputation as a driver’s car. The two GTS racers, built and successfully campaigned by BMCs competitions department, suggests it could have been so much greater. When the racing program was axed, racing driver John Chatham bought the four remaining body shells and all parts from BMC. He completed the cars and competed successfully with them in the 1970s. At one point he decided to build himself a roadster, as the BMC shells were all GTs. In addition, he built two more open top cars for clients, and this is one of them. The wings are moulded on the original BMC bodies, although they're made of fiberglass rather than aluminium. Mechanically, it's built to near racing spec with the engine producing over 200 hp! A joy to drive, this fully documented example was featured by Classic & Sports Car in their March 2021 issue (link below). Driven by well-known racing driver Martin Stretton at this years 'Classic Nostalgia' at Shelsley Walsh. Benefitting from a recent full refurbishment, it comes with a certificate of authenticity by John Chatham, engine bench test results and all invoices. A unique opportunity to acquire a piece of British automotive history and your perfect car for historic racing!
