• Sword (Khadga): Symbolizes the power to cut through ignorance, ego, and all attachments that bind the soul to the cycle of birth and death.




• Skull-Cup (Kapala): Often filled with blood or wine, it represents the consumption and transformation of negative energies and the entire world, which she holds within her. It also symbolizes the final stage of spiritual practice.



Blue Lotus (Utpala): Represents purity, spiritual growth, and unconditional protection for her devotees, promising that they will remain untouched by the mire of the world.



Scissors: This is a key distinguishing element for Tara. The scissors symbolize her power to cut the bonds of unwanted habits, negative karma, and the threads that tie the soul to the physical body and the material world, leading to ultimate spiritual transcendence.




• Blue Skin: Represents her association with the infinite, limitless cosmos (Akasha) and the deep, mysterious waters from which life and knowledge emerge.



• Garland of Skulls: Represents her power over life and death and her ability to transcend the cycle of time. The skulls are the letters of the Sanskrit alphabet, symbolizing primordial sound (the Vak or Eternal Word) from which all creation springs

• The Goddess (Tara): Represents Shakti (Cosmic Energy, Power, and Consciousness in action). Her name itself means "Star" or "One who guides across," signifying her role as the divine ferrywoman who guides devotees across the ocean of worldly existence (samsara).
