This is an all steel (4.9lb, 40" tall in the carry bag) light stand with a 5/8" (baby) mount and 1/4-20 threads on the top. It extends to a whopping 9.5 feet tall (which looks very impressive next to a human!).

It is plenty sturdy and large for most uses, but you are trading off the longer stored size (40" tall). The 5lb weight is more than a similar aluminum stand, but really isn't that heavy. The only real issue with the all steel construction would be use in wet environments (outdoors, etc...) where corrosion may be an issue.

The "spring cushioning" is plenty to keep the extending poles themselves from banging too much when the drop, but I wouldn't trust it to "catch" a light on top of the pole, so ease those poles down by hand if you have a light on the top.

If you are willing/able to use steel, this light stand provides good value for the money. If you are not, you'll have to spend more.
