This song I wrote years ago is based on a true story! It saddens me that the dynamics within a family in the Caribbean have become strained. While living in Jamaica, I noticed a consistent pattern of unfair treatment and negative interactions directed towards me. It has left me feeling hurt, isolated and unvalued. Whenever I decide to speak about how I have been treated, they quickly victimized me and push me to the side. I know what hunger is back home, I know what wearing others' clothes and shoes like and sleeping on the floor feels like. I remember when my sister said I would never reach anywhere in life and wished death on me. Because of that, I have grown up with so much hurt and pain that left me in depression, just to see my very own blood families treat me the way they do and no one would stand up to speak for me or accept their wrongs. They rather brush it under the rug. No wonder why so many young people in the Caribbean are so heartless these days. It's all built up with hurt, misused, abused and mistreated. This song is to spread awareness of family members in the Caribbean who show love to one side of the family and hate the other side. Also, show love to each other, because you never know which family member might be the one to help you in life. Depression is real. Love your friends, family and neighbors. Check on them, not only when you need something but randomly. Don't pray for the next man's downfall because the almighty up above sits high and looks low.
