I used Lion's Claw in 50 duels, and found it highly effective against any level of opponent. Only a single player successfully backstabbed me.

Lion's claw takes 600 poise to break, which starts on frame 1. Basically ,once you press L2, the only way to stop you is death. Experiment with unique ways to trade, even in PVE!

It works best with weapons that vertically "chop", so you can blend the starting animation with your regular attacks

From standing, your opponent has enough time to roll twice and still roll away, which is why blending it with other attacks is so important to hide its starting frames.

My dmg is really high bc of lightning infusion, which, like Dex, gives much higher AoW motion values than Heavy. You can confirm under my health bar I'm not using Shard of Alex.

You can put lion's claw on basically any non-polearm non-mini weapon

To counter Lion's Claw, you can just run behind the opponent without rolling (which costs precious frames). This sounds easy but you have to 1. know they even have Lion's Claw and 2. quickly read they're not just using an R1 or something else. That's why you shouldn't spam it.
