Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree - Tony Orlando & Dawn

On 22nd February, after widespread voter fraud and intimidation in that months snap election, two million people took to the streets across the Philippines as part of the People Power Revolution, also known as the EDSA Revolution, Yellow Revolution or February Revolution. In just three days, the dictatorship which had lasted 20 years was toppled by a coalition of citizens, the clergy and military defectors.

While there would be small-scale violence in the closing hours, the revolution would, to the surprise of the entire world, be almost entirely non-violent. And lead to the swearing in of Corazon 'Cory' Aquino, the wife of democratic activist and senator Benigno 'Ninoy' Aquino who was murdered three years earlier.

Fun fact: The song I used was used heavily in the Philippines when Benigno was in exile by supporters welcoming him home, and again during the revolution, when Corazon used the colour yellow and the image of a yellow ribbon in connection with the song to represent a return of democracy, three years after her husbands death.
