Hawk Zone: Seahawks lose to Rams in overtime 20-36 - New Day NW

The Seahawks scored a last-minute touchdown to tie the game in regulation against the Rams on Sunday, but they couldn’t seal the deal in overtime. The Rams scored on a 39-yard pass to Demarcus Robinson to win the game 26-20.

“We thought after the big beat down we took the week before versus the Bills, this was a chance for us to get right, and we didn’t do it,” Terry Hollimon said. “We didn’t take advantage of the opportunities.”

Geno Smith threw just as many interceptions as touchdowns, with three of each. Two of those interceptions happened deep in Rams territory, including a pick six from the end zone.

“That’s one of the things I have an issue with when it comes to Geno Smith,” Hollimon said. “He tries to do too much when the opportunity is not there.”

Geno was sacked seven times, and the offensive line struggled to protect him. Running back Kenneth Walker III did have 83 yards rushing, and Hollimon says the Seahawks need to feed him the ball.

“When you’re able to run the ball effectively, it puts a little bit less pressure on Geno Smith when it comes to him dropping back in the package,” he said.

The Seahawks defense gave up just 13 points to the Rams offense before overtime.

“Any time you keep an offense with that much potent offensive power to 13 points, you should be able to win the game,” Hollimon said.

Hollimon’s player of the game is wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. He caught 7 passes for an impressive 180 yards and two touchdowns.

“He was out of control,” Hollimon said. “He had a career day.”

The Seahawks now have a timely bye week after two tough losses, and the players will get some time to recuperate.

“The number one thing we need to know, the Seahawks will not lose this week,” Hollimon joked.
