Karnataka Higher Education Minister Sudhakar On Plans To Cut Governor's Powers In Universities?

Karnataka Higher Education Minister Sudhakar addressed the proposed changes to the Karnataka Universities Act, which aim to reduce the Governor's powers. He stated that these changes are necessary for better administration but declined to comment on the issue of diminishing the Governor's role. Minister Sudhakar added that the Law Ministry and Cabinet would soon make a decision. This follows recent changes to the Panchayat Raj and Rural Universities Act, where the Chief Minister will take over as Chancellor, replacing the Governor. The Higher Education Department now plans to amend the Karnataka State Universities Act, further limiting the Governor's powers in other universities, citing Gujarat's similar approach as a precedent.
