If you are a legal nurse consultant who is an extrovert, online networking may not appeal to you at all. You get energized through physical and direct verbal contact with others. You may enjoy receiving attention from others. For you, a stranger is a friend you haven’t met yet, and the more friends you make, the happier you are.

Being alone in your office looking at your computer is, you realize, necessary for some things, but it isn’t your idea of a good time. How can you connect with someone if you can’t see or hear them? Where’s the energy flow you need to feel invigorated?

Relax, extrovert. While online networking may not allow you the direct physical contact you so love, these days you can both see and hear other people. You can make that work.

However, online networking is going to challenge many aspects of your extroverted nature.

I'm Pat Iyer, a legal nurse consultant who has been spending a lot of time recently networking online.

You can usually tell who are the extroverts on social media platform. Facebook provides a graphic example. The extroverts post a lot about their lives; no mishap is too small to share. Their ongoing reports of their daily activities can embody “TMI.” (Too Much Information).

Your friends may love hearing about you, but this approach will not work when you use social media for networking. Yes, you want people to know who you are, but you need to ramp it down. Share your success in a legal case instead of your triumph over a recalcitrant washing machine.
