Abdelatif Ouahbi, Justice Minister, outlined the major proposed amendments to the Family Code during a communication meeting in Rabat on Tuesday. This follows a royal working session held on Monday.

During the meeting, Ouahbi explained that the revisions were based on suggestions from the revision committee and the legal opinion of the Supreme Council of Ulema.

The committee presented 139 proposed amendments, which cover all seven books of the Family Code.

The main proposed amendment regarding "polygamy" stipulates that the wife's opinion must be sought when registering the marriage contract on whether she agrees to the possibility of her husband marrying another woman, and this must be explicitly stated in the contract.
