The jobs of stage managers are varied. Most Broadway shows have several stage managers, each of whom have different duties. One is assigned to make sure that all of the problems backstage and onstage get fixed. Another "calls" each performance, which involves announcing the lighting, sound, and stage cues to board operators from an offstage perch. It's a daunting task, one that takes skill and dedication.
