One of the benefits of vermicomposting with earthworms is that they eat both soil and organic matter. This means that when the food scraps run out, they are just as happy to eat the soil around them. Not only that, but it is their nature to burrow. This is an awesome trait because it takes them beneath the ground in the heat of summer and the dead of winter. Unlike red wigglers, which die in the weather, earthworms adapt and make their home at the base of your plants. I've been farming with earthworms for over a year now. I don't think I'll ever go back to composting worms.
