SCUBA Diving The Sunken Ancient Roman City Of Baiae, the Underwater Pompeii

Описание к видео SCUBA Diving The Sunken Ancient Roman City Of Baiae, the Underwater Pompeii

We were in Naples to See Pompeii and Herculaneum and I’d heard about the sunken city of Baiae which is nearby. It’s been turned into an underwater archeological site. And they are still finding new artifacts. In fact, the last floor mosaic in my video isn’t even shown in any of the websites or brochures that I’ve seen. Many mosaic and marble floors are still intact. And when a diver shows up, the guide sweeps away the rocks covering the floor. They say that keeping them covered helps protect them. Anyway, it was the hedonistic, playground, like the Las Vegas for the Romans with hot springs, bathhouses, super villas and all the things the rich Romans wanted to enjoy in their free time. Evidently, they had quite a good time here. Emperors and the super rich lived here and had a wonderful time. It wasn’t destroyed like Pompeii, but was rather destroyed because it sunk beneath the sea as the land subsided. It’s still sinking and rising as the volcanic areas around it ebb and flow. It’s amazing that it could sink so much and yet have so much preserved. It was a really Interesting Dive.
