In July 2022, President Yoweri Museveni directed the Uganda Prisons Service (UPS) to enhance food and animal feed production. The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries allocated 50,000 acres to UPS for this purpose:

30,000 acres for maize grain
10,000 acres for sorghum
10,000 acres for soybeans
This initiative aims to bolster national food security and support agricultural development.
